Private Utility Locating
Full-site sweeps for electric, gas, water, sewer, fiber, and irrigation on private property. Paint and flags on the ground before your excavator moves.
Based in Elba, Alabama · Serving the Wiregrass
Ground penetrating radar utility locating and concrete scanning for contractors, engineers, and property owners across the Wiregrass. We find the lines 811 won’t mark — and we mark them right on your site before you break ground.
Alabama 811 marks public utilities up to the point of service. Everything past it is private — and legally your responsibility. That includes the lines that cause most of the damage we get called about:
One struck line costs more than a full day of scanning. We locate private utilities so your crew digs with confidence.
What We Do
Dual-method work — ground penetrating radar paired with electromagnetic locating — so metallic and non-metallic targets both get found.
Full-site sweeps for electric, gas, water, sewer, fiber, and irrigation on private property. Paint and flags on the ground before your excavator moves.
Locate rebar, post-tension cable, conduit, and voids before you core, cut, or drill. Critical on slabs, decks, and structural walls where a hit means a rebuild.
Underground storage tanks, buried fuel tanks, septic tanks, and drain field mapping — for real estate closings, Phase I/II work, and repairs.
Identify voids, washouts, and subsidence under slabs, roadways, and foundations before they open up and become a structural claim.
Non-invasive mapping of unmarked graves and burial shafts for churches, family plots, cemeteries, and land development due diligence.
Deliverable-grade site maps with GPS-referenced utility positions for engineers, surveyors, and design teams working toward a dig-safe plan.
How It Works
Tell us the address, what you’re digging, and your dig date. Most quotes take one phone call.
GPR plus electromagnetic sweep across the work zone. Non-destructive — nothing gets cut, dug, or disturbed.
APWA color-coded paint and flags, with approximate depths noted directly on site before we leave.
Photos, a site sketch, and findings documented — so you have a record for the file and the client.
Who We Work For
Clear the pad before the machine shows up.
Trenching, boring, and service runs on occupied property.
Scan the slab before the saw touches it.
Subsurface data that goes straight into the drawing set.
Tank searches and due diligence ahead of closing.
Post holes and pier locations without the surprise.
Locating and mapping for city, county, and district crews.
Septic, well, irrigation, and buried lines on your own land.
Where We Work
We’re based in Elba and mobilize anywhere inside a two-hour drive — that covers the whole Wiregrass, most of South Alabama, Southwest Georgia, and the Florida panhandle.
If it’s roughly two hours of Elba, we’ll come. Call with the address and we’ll tell you straight.

Common Questions
Yes — always, and it’s free and required by Alabama law. 811 marks public utilities in the right-of-way. We handle everything past the meter that 811 will not touch: private service lines, irrigation, site lighting, septic, and anything a previous owner buried. The two go together.
It depends entirely on soil. In the dry sandy loam common across the Wiregrass, we routinely get good returns to 6–10 feet. In heavy red clay or saturated ground, radar attenuates fast and useful depth can drop to 2–4 feet. We pair GPR with electromagnetic locating to cover what radar alone can miss, and we’ll tell you on site what we could and couldn’t confirm.
Pricing depends on site size, access, and travel — so we quote per job rather than posting a number that would be wrong half the time. Call with the address and scope and you’ll get a real figure, not a range.
We work by appointment, Monday through Friday. Call as early as you can once you know your dig date and we’ll get you on the schedule. If a crew is already standing there waiting, say so when you call — we’ll do what we can to work you in.
No. Ground penetrating radar is completely non-destructive. The antenna rolls across the surface like a lawn mower. The only thing left behind is marking paint and flags, and we can use water-soluble paint on finished surfaces if you ask.
Marks on the ground with APWA color coding and approximate depths, plus a digital report with photos and a site sketch. For engineering and design work we can deliver GPS-referenced points suitable for dropping into your CAD file.
No honest locator will promise that, and you should be skeptical of one who does. Soil conditions, depth, line material, and congestion all affect what any technology can resolve. What we guarantee is careful, dual-method work and an honest report of our confidence level in every area we scan.
